Two animated short films created to promote EuroVelo 15 – Rhine Cycle Route and EuroVelo 8 – Mediterranean Route received Silver Awards at the Deauville Green Awards 2025, in the category of Eco-tourism and Responsible Travel.

The two winning films were produced within the framework of the EuroVelo Route Partnerships for EuroVelo 15 – Rhine Cycle Route and EuroVelo 8 – Mediterranean Route. Developed by Cartoonbase in collaboration with local and national partners, the animations promote cycling holidays as an enjoyable and environmentally respectful way to explore Europe.

The first short film is called A Cycling Holiday for Everyone. It brings you along the Rhine Cycle Route, showing a welcoming and accessible journey perfect for different levels of cycling abilities. And it is true! EuroVelo 15 is a family-friendly, sustainable travel option that connects people with amazing nature and European cultural heritage.

The second film, A Once in a Lifetime Experience, is set along the Mediterranean Route. It shows the richness of cycling through southern Europe! You are invited to follow the journey through animated postcards highlighting local delicious gastronomy, the sunshine and the natural Mediterranean beauty. Always a perfect destination for cycling!

These short films tell the stories of cyclists exploring Europe by bicycle, reflecting on their experiences and encouraging others to travel consciously, in ways that respect the environment, cities and local communities.

Deauville Green Awards

The Deauville Green Awards, founded in 2012, are a major festival for environmental and social responsibility films. It brings together the best of global audiovisual content committed to environmental and societal transformation. Each year, over 500 films are submitted from around the world to compete a variety of awards. The festival offers a platform for filmmakers, public institutions, NGOs and companies to share their messages and inspire action.

The 14th edition of this film festival was held from 4 to 7 June 2025 at the GoodPlanet Foundation in Paris, bringing together films from around the world to celebrate committed audiovisual creativity focused on ecology and social issues.

The award

The Deauville Green Awards competition is structured into a total of 15 different categories, one of them being Eco-tourism and Responsible Travel. This category rewards initiatives that promote low-impact travel, cultural exchange and the preservation of natural and local heritage. This is the category in which the two EuroVelo films were awarded Silver. It is a meaningful recognition for EuroVelo, as it not only highlights the creativity of the films but also reinforces EuroVelo’s role in shaping the future of sustainable tourism across Europe.

We are used to EuroVelo being appreciated by families, solo adventurers and cycling partners who ride the routes and share their experiences with us. But receiving this recognition from the art world is something special. Deauville Green Awards is a festival that celebrates films not only for their artistic quality but also for their ethical and environmental engagement and we are happy to be awarded the Silver prize.
