Cette étape de l'EuroVelo 5 traverse la grande et lisse vallée du Pô entre la zone métropolitaine de Milan et les contreforts des Apennins dans la province de Parme, en passant par de charmantes villes d'art qui offrent aux visiteurs un riche patrimoine médiéval et de la Renaissance à découvrir. Depuis Darsena, port où se rencontrent deux canaux majeurs, le Grande et le Pavese, la route continue vers Pavie, la capitale du royaume lombard. Les Lombards ont ouvert la route du Monte Bardone (appelée aujourd'hui la traversée de Cisa), comme un corridor sûr pour relier leurs territoires du nord à Tuscia et au-delà.
